Tea Party for Silver
Submitted by Jim Ostrowski on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 01:01Media Advisory:
The Western New York tea party movement is hosting a "Tea Party for Speaker Sheldon Silver" in honor of his visit to Buffalo next week (Thurs. Jan. 28, 5:30-7:30pm) to collect campaign funds from special interest groups.
Activists will meet out on the street at HSBC Center in Downtown Buffalo (Main and Seneca) while the fat cats will conspire for power and pelf at Phillips Lytle LLP, 31st Floor, Grover Cleveland Room, HSBC Center, Buffalo, NY 14203.
Proceeds go to the Erie County Democratic Committee that has served the people of WNY so wonderfully through 50 straight years of decline.
Attendees at the cocktail party can purchase $2000 of influence from the Speaker.
Organizers advise the activists to "let the plutocrats bring the two grand; just bring your mouth and some warm clothing."
The protest is co-sponsored by:

Help Me Sell 1000 Books in January
Submitted by Jim Ostrowski on Sun, 01/03/2010 - 16:40I'll be honest. I need your help.
My own little company, Cazenovia Books, published Government Schools Are Bad for Your Kids in November on Amazon with a zero budget for advertising and marketing. Thanks to the internet, however, the word has gotten out and I had respectable sales the last two months. With the holidays over, it is time to take the Free the Children movement to a different level.
I have made efforts to gain local and national media coverage for the book. No luck so far. I'm not complaining, just stating a fact. (What good did complaining ever do?)
With little media coverage, no PR firm, no promotion budget, and no major publishing house behind me, I have no choice but to appeal to the grassroots liberty movement to promote this important book. If I can sell just 1000 books in January--11 down, 989 to go, I will have the revenue needed to start a national book tour as well as finish off the new website. Not only that, but I will the revenue needed to publish and promote my third book this month, the first-ever strategy manual for the liberty movement: Direct Citizen Action: How We Can Win the Second American Revolution Without Firing a Shot.
1000 sales will also keep my Amazon rank high so that the media gurus in NY and DC will be more likely to book me on a talk show.
If you are a supporter of Free New York, you may have noticed that you haven't gotten a fundraising pitch in some time (we did raise money impromptu at a tea party event to publish our economics flier). This is not an accident. As a private sector group, we listen to the market and the market said it's nearly impossible to raise money for a general interest think tank. So, we have developed alternative strategies. First, we rolled out a strategy for the tea party movement that simply does not require any funding! Second, I am trying to generate revenue for these projects by book sales and web ad revenue so our success will not depend on the fickle nature of donations. In other words, to promote free market policies, we are acting like capitalists! Imagine that.
I just wanted you to know that the things I do are not spur of the moment whims but are based on trying to carefully adapt to changing conditions and keep the liberty movement in WNY and national vibrant.
Please do what you can. You're an American so I leave the rest up to your native ingenuity and initiative.
(I will speak about the book anytime, anywhere within driving distance of Buffalo.)
Also, if you buy directly from Cazenovia, I make more money and you can get the book faster.
Folks outside WNY, feel free to buy at Amazon. Where would I be without that great company?
Thanks and as always, let me cite my favorite quote from GW: “Perseverance and spirit have down wonders in all ages.”
Happy New Year!
Submitted by Jim Ostrowski on Thu, 12/31/2009 - 10:04It was just a few weeks ago that the new book was launched with this website following shortly thereafter.
The reviews and reactions to the book so far have been excellent. I expect some of the private reviews to go public shortly.
This website is taking shape and will, I believe, explode with activity in 2010.
Please start posting on the forum.
Thanks to Sara Corsi and Justin Kelly for creating this website from scratch.
I have cleared my calendar for the new year and promise you I will do whatever it takes to make the Free the Children campaign a huge success.
Jim Fedako Endorses the Book
Submitted by Jim Ostrowski on Fri, 12/18/2009 - 09:27There is a section on the FreetheChildren.US forum to endorse my new book publicly. There is also a place to bash the book. Jim's is the first endorsement. So far, every person who has read it has had a positive reaction. I am also happy to receive constructive criticism since I will put out a revised edition in a few months. The miracle of on-demand publishing makes that snap.
A great book for a broad audience
by Jim Fedako
I recently read Government Schools are bad for you kids: What you need to know. I found the book to be a powerful reminder of why my wife and I home school our children.
Many parents view the government's curriculum as being the best available. And they buy into the PR campaigns that claim government schools are producing educated young adults who are free-thinking, self-starters.
Such a claim couldn't be further from the truth.
Government schools exist to produce citizens who blindly support the government. Private and home schools can educate, but they tend to not produce "good little soldiers" for the political class.
Certainly, government schools teach the three R's -- it needs a relatively educated workforce. But it's main goal is indoctrination.
I cheered when James asks, "[W]hat does a 99 in a government school American history course mean?" and then answers with, "[T]hat the student has mastered propaganda 101."
This is so true. And I would extend that to include economics, etc. Every subject, other than the three R's (and now they are also suspect), has been subsumed into the state's program of indoctrination.
Don't believe it? Try getting your local school to present an alternative view of global warming. Or recycling. Or health care reform. Or, well, you get the idea.
James's book isn't just a reminder to those who already home school. It is an encouragement to those who are considering homeschooling. And it is a good counter to those who still buy into the belief that government schools are providing a "public good."
Birthday Book Bomb
Submitted by Jim Ostrowski on Thu, 12/10/2009 - 20:37Liz Abbott, folk singer and Ron Paul activist, is sponsoring a birthday book bomb for my new book tomorrow.
Thanks Liz!
Congratulations on your new book, Jim! I really enjoyed myself at the book signing last night. We have a very vital community of Patriots here, & I was lucky to meet & chat with many new friends in this Movement. I look forward to reading your book about why Gov't Schools are bad. I feel very strongly about this Issue! This is an important book, Jim... & this Friday On your Birthday, I plan to post a "bookbomb" for you on our meetup group

Finally, A Winning Strategy for the Tea Party Movement (and Ron Paul Revolution)
Submitted by Jim Ostrowski on Sun, 12/06/2009 - 14:43The most powerful computer in the world is Google.
This search tells you all you need to know about the tea party movement:
There is no strategy for victory that is widely accepted. You can't win without a strategy.
On April 18th, I rolled out part of just such a strategy. However, I was unable to include the best strategic idea since it was not ready for prime time. Execution is everything.
I have since published my new book that spells out that strategy in great detail and the website is up and developing as I write.
So I have updated the 12 Point Plan to include several new and powerful ideas including boycotting K-12 government schools.
Here it is:
A 12-Point Plan for Direct Citizen Action
Instructions:
• Read the speech at PoliticalClassDismissed.com/speech (April 18, 2009)
• Read the book, Government Schools Are Bad for Your Kids (November, 2009)
• Tape this sheet to your refrigerator
• DO IT!
1. Decide that you’ve had enough. You want to do something to reverse America’s steady decline. That something is nothing less than restoring the American Republic. America’s problems of today were caused by the abandonment of that Republic slowly over a long period of time. Pledge allegiance to the principles of the American Revolution.
2. Educate yourself on American history, politics and economics.
3. Write a letter to your family, friends and neighbors declaring your support for restoring the American Republic.
4. Invite them to a meeting and explain to them what you have learned and urge them to do the same and then hold their own meeting with their own social circle.
5. Display the symbol of the restoration of the Republic, the Betsy Ross flag.
6. Patronize businesses that display this flag and boycott businesses that bankroll the political class.
7. Educate yourself on the rights of jurors. If you are called for jury duty, understand that the founding fathers designed the system as a check on government power. Remember that when you are in the jury room deliberating.
8. Ostracize and shun politicians who continue to support big government policies against all logic, evidence and protest.
9. Choose private sector goods and services over government ones whenever possible.
10. Pull your children out of K-12 government schools immediately.
11. Patronize books, blogs, websites, newspapers, magazines, think tanks, and political groups that were right about the economic collapse. Mises.org., IlanaMercer.com and others. See our page for a complete list.
12. For political activism, join an existing Patriot group. Don’t reinvent the wheel. See our page for recommended groups. While politics is not our best field of battle at the moment, as our movement grows, we will soon be able to launch a successful frontal assault on the political class. Follow these websites for continuing developments in the tea party movement: PoliticalClassDismissed.com and FreetheChildren.US.
All the information you need for points 1, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 is at: PoliticalClassDismissed.com/teaparty (Under Construction)

Wine and cheese will be served and there will also be a cash bar featuring WNY's finest selection of Polish beers and spirits.
I will speak on why I wrote this book, the culmination of 35 years of political activism and public policy writing.
For this occasion, I am discounting the book to $10 including tax. I have a limited supply of books. To reserve copies, use the Buy Now Paypal button at PoliticalClassDismissed.com.
“Government Schools” is an explosive expose of compulsory “education” in America that pronounces the whole experiment a colossal and tragic failure and calls for its dismantling one child at a time.
It has already made two bestseller lists, LewRockwell.com and and Amazon's list of books on education.
The event is free and open to the public.

Explosive Expose on Government Schools Published
Buffalo, New York. November 16, 2009. James Ostrowski, prominent libertarian and tea party movement leader, has published his second book, Government Schools Are Bad for Your Kids: What You Need to Know. The book urges parents to pull their children out of the schools to escape crime, drugs, promiscuity, political correctness, indoctrination, and academic mediocrity. “This book provides the tea party movement with a strategic roadmap to restore the Jeffersonian vision of individual liberty that is the very essence of America,” he writes.
Ostrowski was led to write the book out of anger that his own kids’ parish school closed in 2006. At the present rate, private schools are doomed as a poor economy and rising tuitions squeeze out working class parents who are already forced to pay large sums for failing government schools.
The fate of the nation is tied to the future of K-12 education, Ostrowski argues: “The grand result of our experiment with government schools is a population ill-prepared to deal with the present crisis in America. . . . they are utterly unequipped to deal with the harsh new reality that the regime is failing and the nation is in the process of economic collapse.”
Another excerpt: “Government schools are truly the foundation of big government today. They supply the funding and the troops [the teachers unions] and they drum the ideology into your children, five days a week for thirteen years. Finally, they render many children less able to survive without constant support and direction from the government. Their message is that people cannot live in freedom and they fulfill that prophecy with each graduating class.”
After reviewing 50 years of failed efforts to reform the schools through the political process, Ostrowski argues that the only feasible option is direct citizen action: a massive simultaneous withdrawal of children from the schools.
James Ostrowski is a trial and appellate lawyer in Buffalo, New York. He was on presidential candidate Ron Paul’s legal staff last year. His policy studies have been published by the Hoover Institution, the Ludwig von Mises Institute and the Cato Institute. His articles have been used as course materials at numerous colleges and universities including Brown, Rutgers and Stanford. He taught a course in the Constitution at Canisius College and has been a guest lecturer at the University at Buffalo Medical School.
Presently he is an Adjunct Scholar at the Ludwig von Mises Institute and columnist for LewRockwell.com. He is editor of the libertarian blog, PoliticalClassDismissed.com and founder and president of the Jeffersonian think tank, Free New York, Inc.
He is the author of the 2004 anthology, Political Class Dismissed, dubbed the “bible of the Upstate NY tax revolt.”
